Capture Your Love Story in Photographs

All About Jess Bidwell’s Couples Photography

Many couples have a hard time getting quality photos together since it requires you to both be away from the camera. When you book a photo session with me, you can say goodbye to those blurry selfies and enjoy phenomenal photos that tell the story of your love. Whether you want engagement photos, a maternity photoshoot, or just some simple images as a couple, the following information will guide you through my process, from booking to sharing your final photographs.

When to Book

I recommend booking a couples photography session at least six to eight weeks in advance. This gives us time to coordinate and choose an ideal location. However, some situations may require something outside of that window.

For example, if you want maternity photos, you may want to book for a certain point in the pregnancy and plan well in advance. Or, if your proposal plans come together just a few weeks ahead of your planned date, you may not have had a chance to plan ahead.

Regardless of the occasion, you can contact me when it feels best for you, and I can let you know my availability.

How to Prepare

In the weeks leading up to your photoshoot, I will guide you so you can adequately prepare everything you need for your couples photography session.

After you book your session, I will send you a personality questionnaire. This will help me learn more about you, the type of couples photos you want, and a location that will work well. These questions also give me some great information to “break the ice” on the day of the photoshoot so I can help you capture the true essence of your love.

What you wear can significantly impact how your photographs look. Stick to the similar tones, but don’t overly match. Try to avoid wearing the exact same color. You should also avoid fluorescents and consider neutral tones or colors that will provide a contrast to the location of the photoshoot. Layers work well, and your shoes should match the outfit and location. Above all, be comfortable and feel like yourselves!

You should also consider a location you’d like us to use for the family photos. The Western Slope offers an array of beautiful locations. Do you want to recreate your first date? Let’s do it! Looking for candid photos as you tackle a new adventure? You won’t even notice I’m there! I love finding new, exciting locations and am open to whatever feels best to you. If you are unsure, I can also list spots especially romantic or fun for couples’ photos.

What to Expect

On the day of your family photography session, we will meet at the time and location we've discussed beforehand. I will scope out some ideal spots at the location based on the lighting and time of year, and we will jump in.

I'll do most of the work — your family should just come prepared to have a great time together! If you feel nervous or unsure how to act in front of the camera, I'll pull out my “bag of tricks” to help you relax and feel at ease.

After we finish, I will comb through the photographs to select the best ones for your online gallery. You will receive an email from me with directions on accessing this gallery two or three weeks after our scheduled session date.
